Project Title

Plato's Academy

The design project of the 8th semester included an urban park, for the city of Athens. An urban park that serves as a bridge between the old industrial zone of the area and the existing park.

The proposal creates a space for residents and different categories of users as children, young people, collectives and visitors.  Several layers were used in order to combine all of these different groups. Firstly the focus was on the design of the park; we created open spaces and paths that connect the old part of the area with the new neighbourhood. Then the next layer concerned the buildings; the basic idea was a building serving as the main matrix and smaller buildings being created as one walks away from the main matrix.

Alongside the Park of Athens, the increased archaeological value of the area was taken into consideration and THE NEW MUSEUM OF ATHENS was designed. This building gives the visitor a chance to make a journey through the history of Athens, with the same beginning and end. A building with a strictly rectangular plan and without walls to define each exhibition, but instead an open plan where the exhibits organize the building.
