The Diploma Thesis focuses on maintaining the current social structure in the area of Metaxourgio (Athens, Greece) which is an international and poor area. The aim is to create a new public space, which will promote and strengthen its multicultural characteristics.

The idea of the project is based on the fact that religion could unite the three different religious groups, Orthodox, Muslims and Buddhists, which currently live in the area. Religion is a shelter for people who are afraid of the unknown, who grieve and for people who look for hope.

Considering this, the residents are brought together to pray in different buildings, which while maintaining their own identity, they are connected with a garden, representing the “Garden of Eden” from the Bible.

Under the garden, there is a library, which represents the “tree of knowledge”. The three different religious groups already coexist in the region.

This garden will help the different religious groups to communicate and learn from each other. Furthermore, creating a strong religion landmark in the area, will reinforce the immigrants’ identity and help them blend peacefully and easily with the existing population.
